The City of Dallas erected new street signs near Children's Medical Center Dallas, announcing name changes to two streets that border the hospital. Dallas City Council approved the street name changes for Motor Street, now Medical District Drive, between Stemmons Freeway and Maple Avenue, and Medical Center Drive, now Southwestern Medical Avenue, to further reinforce the Southwestern Medical District brand identity.
"A designated medical district is one of the hallmarks of a great city," said David Biegler, chairman of the Southwestern Medical District, "It was a pleasure to work with the Dallas City Council and the Stemmons Corridor Business Association to bring this project to fruition. The commitment of our city leaders is essential for our medical district to continue to thrive, and we are very grateful that this milestone helps further brand our city as a worldwide leader in health care."
Dallas City Councilwoman Pauline Medrano, instrumental in the street renaming, was on hand to see the crews put up the new street signs outside Children's.
The Stemmons Corridor Business Association and the Southwestern Medical District requested the street name changes in order to better identify the medical district. Motorists along Stemmons Freeway will notice new exit signs for the Motor Street exit in the near future.
The previous street names, Motor Street and Medical Center Drive, will continue to be cross-referenced for several years for use by EMS, U.S. Postal Service, delivery companies, and map databases. South of Stemmons Freeway, the street will continue to be called Motor Street.
