As the national spokesperson for the Starlight Children's Foundation, Jamie Lee Curtis stopped at Children's Medical Center to visit with patients and celebrate the hospital's new Fun Centers, which were sponsored by members of the community via Starlight.
Fun Centers are mobile entertainment units containing a Sharp AQUOS® LCD television, DVD player and Nintendo Wii™ system that are used to help entertain child patients and distract them while they are being treated in the hospital. They easily roll right up to the side of a bed or anywhere in a hospital setting, making them perfect for pediatric patients. Five new Fun Centers have been donated to Children's by various donors in the community, and are made possible through Starlight.
Patients look forward to time away from treatment, whether they're meeting movie stars, building LEGO® towers with other patients, or playing games on a Nintendo Wii™. Child Life specialists supervise daily opportunities for patients to play, have fun and just be kids, whether or not they can leave their rooms. Child Life specialists also help patients adapt to their surroundings and to normalize their hospital experience, and the Fun Centers are one of the many tools they use to help entertain and distract kids in the hospital.
