Children's one of top hospitals in national survey

Parents magazine has named Children's Medical Center one of the nation's top pediatric hospitals in its annual "Best Children's Hospitals" survey. Children's is ranked as number 17 out of more than 100 U.S. hospitals that were eligible for the honor.

Children's moved up eight spots from last year to achieve a top 20 ranking in the survey.

"We are honored to be recognized by Parents magazine as one of the leaders in pediatric healthcare," said Christopher J. Durovich, president and chief executive officer at Children's. "The results of this survey are a great testimony to the extraordinary care that our employees provide every day to the patients and families that we serve."

The survey results

The results of the survey are from the most extensive, data-driven comparison of children's hospitals to date. All surveyed hospitals are members of the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions. The survey focused quantitatively on vital medical information such as survival rates, the number of complex procedures and intricate surgeries conducted, volume of research studies, efforts to reduce medical errors and training for doctors and nurses as well as child-friendliness, family support and community involvement.

The survey results will be published in the magazine's February 2009 issue. The top 10 hospitals will be identified in the magazine, while 11-30 will be noted on the magazine's Web site at www.parents.com.
