In The Heart Center at Children's , parents can find a comprehensive program that includes care from diagnosis to the most complex procedures, as well as detailed education and support that is vital to caring for their child. An expert team cares for each patient and family's unique needs so that can rest assured your child's heart is in the best hands.

We provide premier pediatric cardiac care including prenatal consultation and non-invasive diagnostic imaging and cardiothoracic surgery for children with congenital and acquired heart defects and diseases. Children's is the first hospital in the nation, pediatric or adult, to receive disease-specific certification for fetal heart care.

Two full-time dedicated catheterization laboratories perform interventional and electrophysiology catheterizations. Our accredited, comprehensive echocardiography laboratory performs more than 9,000 echocardiograms a year.

If your child needs heart surgery, our team is committed to providing the highest level of care. Congenital and acquired heart defects are treated by a team of specialists using the most advanced techniques to heal your child's broken heart.

Cardiac Surgery program highlights:

  • Our team performs more than 500 cardiac surgical procedures and more than 300 open-heart procedures each year.
  • To meet the extraordinary demand of one of the most active cardiac centers in the nation, we have a 22-bed inpatient floor dedicated to cardiac patients.
  • The center expanded its state-of-the-art pediatric Cardiovascular intensive care unit to 20 beds in 2009. The Cardiovascular ICU at Children's is the only one in North Texas staffed full-time with intensivists trained in both cardiac and critical care medicine.
  • Acutely ill or injured patients in varying stages of recovery from diagnostic, therapeutic or surgical interventions are cared for by specially trained nurses in a 22-bed cardiac step-down unit.
  • North Texas' first pediatric heart transplant was performed at Children's in 1988. Since then, surgeons have implanted more than 120 new hearts in children giving them a new lease on life.
