50-Year-Strong Women's Auxiliary Announces 2011-2012 Gifts to Children's Medical Center

June 11, 2012

Celebrating its 50th year of support for Children’s Medical Center, the Dallas and Legacy Chapters of the Women’s Auxiliary to Children’s Medical Center recently announced their 2011-2012 gifts. To date, the Women’s Auxiliary has provided more than $16 million to Children’s and boasts more than 1,000 members.

“For 50 years, the Women’s Auxiliary has enabled Children’s to grow and thrive as one of the nation’s top pediatric centers,” said Pete Kline, Children’s Medical Center Foundation President. “We are proud of their unwavering support to help us make life better for children.”

Each year the Women’s Auxiliary raises funds to support specific needs of the hospitals. A summary of the 2011-2012 gifts are listed below:

Dallas Chapter

  • Provide two nitrous oxide sets for Children’s Emergency Department. Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a mild and safe sedative used to improve pain management for patients, decrease anxiety for patients and their families and improve patient satisfaction.

  • Help support the Funnyatrics Clown Program for one year. The program was launched in 2005, thanks to generous donations from families who thought that laughter could be the best medicine. The clowns empower children through laughter, contribute to the care team through distractions and humor and to uplift the environment.

  • Gift to document and honor the hospital’s 100 years of service during Children’s 100th birthday in 2013

  • Support the consolidation and expansion of the Heart Center; adding 12 beds to the Heart Center’s Cardiac Intensive Care Unit

In 2010, the Legacy Chapter of the Women’s Auxiliary was created to meet the needs of Children’s at Legacy in Plano, which opened in 2008.

Legacy Chapter

  • Two picture archiving and communication systems for viewing and storing diagnostic quality images and two NOMAD Pro handheld X- ray systems for the dental clinic

  • Production of at least one mural in Radiology and a set of three unique tapestries to be displayed on an inpatient unit

In addition to the dollars raised through annual fundraising projects and events like Breakfast with Santa, American Girl store “Sundaes on Sunday,” and Family Night at Six Flags; the Women’s Auxiliary members provide support to hospital staff and families, as well as serve as ambassadors for the hospital.
