Cockrell Hill MyChildren’s location to provide medical care in underserved area
DALLAS (Feb. 6) – On Thursday, Children’s Medical Center (www.childrens.com) will formally open MyChildren’s Cockrell Hill, its newest primary care practice in the underserved neighborhood of West Dallas.
Dallas school superintendent Mike Miles will attend the ceremony, along with community leaders and hospital officials. The event is a significant milestone for West Dallas, where residents have long sought better access to basic services such as education and health care.
Media tours of the clinic are available after the event, which is at 10 a.m. at4351 DFW Turnpike, Suite 150, Dallas 75211. The clinic is at the northwest corner of I-30 and Cockrell Hill Road.
“West Dallas children deserve a high-quality medical home that is close to schools and residences,” said Dr. Ray Tsai, medical director of MyChildren’s. “The new MyChildren’s pediatric primary care practice will fill a need that’s been unmet for too long.”
MyChildren’s pediatric primary care practices are located in neighborhoods where high numbers of families depend on Medicaid and the state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program. Declining reimbursement prevents many physicians from accepting new Medicaid patients. The MyChildren’s pediatric primary care practices provide critical health care access for thousands of children, leading to better overall care.
“All children need continued access to medical care for routine check-ups and immunizations, as well as non-emergency issues such as ear infections and sore throats,” Dr.Tsai said. “We can offer patients the ability to schedule appointments and see the same doctor each visit. Without such a medical home, many families resort to the emergency department at Children’s for conditions that are really better taken care of in a primary care office.”
MyChildren’s Cockrell Hill is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will offer limited Saturday appointments later in the year.
The Cockrell Hill office is among 13 MyChildren’s locations in the greater Dallas area. All MyChildren’s locations are staffed by highly trained nurses and physicians who are board-certified in pediatrics.
The first six clinics were recently recognized as Level 3 patient-centered medical homes by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), and were among the first in the nation to be recognized under NCQA’s newest guidelines.
