American Childhood Cancer Organization
Provides information and support for children and adolescents with cancer and their families, to provide grassroots leadership through advocacy and awareness, and to support research leading to a cure for all children diagnosed with this life-threatening disease.
A week-long summer camp held each July for children ages 7-15 who have been or are currently being treated for cancer at Children's. All of the usual camp activities are offered including swimming, horseback riding and arts and crafts. There is no cost to the camper or his family.
People Living with Cancer is the patient information Web site of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) designed to help patients and families make informed health-care decisions.
Cancer Support Community North Texas
Cancer Support Community North Texas provides a meeting place where people with cancer and their families and friends join together with others to build social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care. Free of charge and non-profit, Gilda’s Club offers support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and social events in a nonresidential, homelike setting.
Caps for Kids
The non-profit organization Caps for Kids® provides hats to children who have lost their hair during cancer treatment. These special hats not only help increase self-esteem but also help retain some of the dignity lost when children lose their hair. The children not only have something they can be proud of during a difficult time, but they gain a new sense of hope when they realize their hero cares enough to autograph a hat especially for them. An inventory of caps is kept in the CCBD outpatient unit. However, special requests are welcome and can often be obtained from other participating facilities.
The Children's Brain Tumor Foundation of the Southwest
A non-profit organization dedicated to the support of children with brain tumors, their family members and friends, while raising awareness and funds for innovative research (conducted at UT Southwestern and Children's) into better treatment options and a cure for brain tumors.
Clayton Dabney Foundation for Kids with Cancer
CDF provides needy families who have children in the last stages of terminal cancer with assistance in creating "Everlasting Memories." The assistance is arranged through parents and is anonymous to the child whenever possible. Assistance includes paying basic bills, so parents can be off work to be with their child as well as any wish a child has even if the child has already received a wish earlier in treatment.
Supports nationwide clinical and laboratory research on causes, treatments and cures for childhood cancer, and advocates to benefit children with cancer.
First Descents is a free kayak camp in Colorado for teens and young adults with cancer. Started by professional kayaker Brad Ludden, First Descents uses kayaking and other outdoor activities to help campers face challenges and face obstacles associated with living with cancer in a fun and supportive environment.
Heroes for Children
Heroes for Children is a nonprofit organization providing financial and social assistance to families, within the state of Texas, with children up to age 22 battling cancer. Formerly known as Taylor 's Angels, Heroes for Children was created in memory of Taylor Anne Brewton and Allison Leigh Scott.
Histiocytosis Association of America
The Histiocytosis Association of America site is intended for educational and informational purposes. The association is an international partnership of patients, families, physicians and friends. The site includes events, information, surveys and a Web site lounge.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Dedicated to seeking the cause and eventual cure of leukemia, lymphoma and other blood-related cancers. Nationwide programs include research, patient aid, public and professional education. The society offers local family support group programs free of charge to patients, families and friends.
Pink Heart Funds
Pink Heart Funds is a non-profit and charity organization that provides wigs to women and children suffering from hair loss, breast prosthesis and lymphedema sleeves, all FREE of charge.
