The Southwestern Center for Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Children's Medical Center Dallas and at Children’s Legacy campus offers a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis, treatment, education and research of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease. It is the only center of its kind in North Texas.

Our medical team is comprised of specialists in pediatric gastroenterology, nutrition, psychiatry, psychology, surgery, ostomy and wound healing, child life and social work. This diversity of specializations allows us to provide you and your child with the individualized care necessary to handle complex chronic illnesses.   • What types of patients are seen?

     

    The team sees infants and children whose suffer from chronic recurring inflammation of the intestines. Conditions frequently seen include:

    • Inflammatory bowel disease
    • Crohn's disease
    • Ulcerative colitis
    • Indeterminate colitis

  • Who will be in charge of my child’s care?

     

    The inpatient gastroenterologist will be in charge of the day-to-day care of your child while in hospital. The outpatient team will be in contact with the inpatient medical team and will be aware of changes in your child's condition.

  • Who is part of the outpatient team?

     

    The outpatient team consists of a gastroenterologist, nurse practitioner, dietitian, psychologist and nurse. If other members of the healthcare team are needed, then an appointment will be made in the appropriate clinic (surgery, social work, etc.).

  • My child was at another hospital, what next?

     

    For continuity of care, we request that all admissions be at Children's Medical Center Dallas. If your child is admitted to another facility, please call our office. All efforts are made to transfer your child to a Children's location, if necessary.

  • Who can I call for questions about nutrition?

     

    Our dietitians are available during your clinic visit, and also by phone during regular business hours.

  • What if I need to schedule my clinic visit?

The Dedicated Multidisciplinary IBD clinic is held on Tuesday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
