The Nephrology Department provides specialized full spectrum services from newborn to age 21 with congenital and acquired kidney-related conditions and disorders. The department is one of the largest pediatric nephrology departments in the United States and has the largest pediatric nephrology departments in North Texas.
In addition to its physical consequences, renal failure may delay mental and social development in some children. That is why the Nephrology team, led by Drs. Michael Baum, Raymond Quigley, and Mouin Seikaly, emphasizes comprehensive patient care that addresses all aspects of growth and well-being. Each case is managed with a full team of expert caregivers from clinical nutrition, social work and nursing to pastoral care, child life, psychology and financial counseling.
The Nephrology Department consist of a Nephrology Clinic, Nephrology Testing Services, Outpatient In-center Hemodialysis Program; Inpatient Hemodialysis Program, Outpatient Home Peritoneal Dialysis Program and Inpatient Peritoneal Dialysis Program. Children’s dialysis program is the largest pediatric dialysis program in North Texas and is one of the largest pediatric programs in the country. Since dialysis patients frequently miss school to receive treatments at the hospital, the department employees a hospital-based school teacher and patient laptops to make sure they don’t fall behind in their class work.
