Medical Psychiatric Conditions
Medical and technological advancements allow many children and adolescents with chronic illnesses to live long and healthy lives. However, many chronic illnesses and life prolonging interventions have an impact on the child's emotional, behavioral and cognitive function. The Center for Pediatric Psychiatry has a commitment and the expertise important to improve the quality of life of children with combined medical and psychiatric difficulties.
Most services for patients who enter Children's because of their medical needs are offered through the medical psychiatry service. Children may be seen at the hospital bedside or at a clinic visit by psychologists and psychiatrists who work closely with the child's care team. Because of the proximity of medical services available, medically ill children who require a higher level of care may also receive care in the day treatment unit and the inpatient services.
