Psychiatry and Psychological Services: Inpatient Services

The Children's psychiatry inpatient program serves children and adolescents who require around the clock care. Each child is served by a team of professionals including psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed counselors, social workers, nurses and milieu therapists who collaborate to provide an intensive program individually tailored to the child's needs.

The inpatient program, located within the hospital, treats patients with a variety of diagnoses, including eating disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, autism spectrum disorders and medical psychiatric conditions. In addition, Children's is the only facility in North Texas that specializes in treating children and adolescents with combined medical and psychiatric problems.

The program consists of comprehensive services including individual, group and family therapy. The active milieu program teaches young people to understand and manage their emotions and behaviors. During their stay, patients are enrolled in school with the goal of meeting their educational needs during hospitalization. Patients with eating disorders also receive additional nutritional counseling. Other services including recreational, art, and music therapy, and spirituality groups are also offered for patients.
