ER reimagination
The Emergency Room (ER) at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, the flagship hospital at Children’s Health℠, has become one of the busiest pediatric ERs in the nation with around 122,000 visits yearly and as many as 400 children seen daily.
We’re undergoing a complete overhaul to allow us to serve more children, enhance operational efficiencies and reimagine the ER experience for everyone – patients, families and team members alike.
With a $30,000,000 fundraising goal, your support is critical in helping us make this new space a reality.
Through the Years
A commitment to providing specialized emergency care
When Children’s Health was founded in 1913 as the Dallas Baby Camp, we operated to provide ill babies in our community with the health resources and care they needed immediately.
In 1967, Children’s Health opened the Emergency Department to accommodate 35,000 patient visits annually. Then, North Texas had a population of around 570,000, which has grown to more than 7 million people today.
Today
Only pediatric Level I Trauma Center in North Texas
Children’s Health receives the most critical patients in the area and treatment ranges significantly from asthma attacks to traumatic injuries. Our multidisciplinary team is specially trained in pediatrics to manage any severe or life-threating injury a child may face – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
As the only pediatric Level I Trauma Center in the area and continual increases in ER use, we are often at capacity. Expansion and modernization are necessary to keep up with the ever-growing needs of our community.
Future
Changes that make a difference
We must be ready to care for the children of tomorrow and the increasingly complex cases – from trauma to mental health
Our new ER will be completely modernized into two stories with an easily accessible, street-level entrance. In addition, the interior will be completely redesigned with the patient and family in mind. As the renovations progress over the next several years in three phases, patient rooms will be larger, private and have state-of-the-art medical technology and equipment.
