MyChart Feature Guide
MyChart gives you online access to your medical record. It can help you participate in your health care and communicate with your providers.
This guide gives an overview of many of MyChart's features and how to use them.
What’s new?
Beginning in October 2023 you can:
Get Started
Sign up for MyChart
If you or your child has already been seen by a Children’s Health provider, fill out and submit this registration form. Our Health Information Management team will review and verify your information, and then email you an activation code.
You can also sign up at your next appointment by working with a Children’s Health team member to set up your account. You will be given an activation code and will be able to log in to your MyChart account immediately.
How to navigate MyChart
When you first log in to MyChart, you'll see the MyChart home page.
- At the top of the home page are shortcuts to get to the most used activities.
- Below the shortcuts is the health feed, which shows the most important alerts and information for you and any family member you care for, like a new message from your care team and reminders for an upcoming appointment.
- Use the searchable menu to find any other activities you need to get to.
Learn how to switch to your child’s profile.
Learn about MyChart features
In the Learning Library, you can watch videos about MyChart features. To see these videos, go to Resources > MyChart Video Tutorials.
Family Access
If you're a parent or legal guardian, you can have full access to your child's record until they turn 18. In some cases you may be eligible to continued access after your child turns 18. This section explains how to access a child's record.
Access your child’s record
After your account is activated, you’ll automatically have access to your child’s health record and you’ll see their notifications in your MyChart health feed when you first log in. You can see your child's other information by switching to their profile from the Switch menu.
If you use the MyChart mobile app, you choose whose record to see when you log in. You can save your choice so that you go to your child’s profile every time you log in.
Personalize MyChart.
Give someone else access to your record
If you are at least 18 years old and a Children’s Health patient yourself, you can allow someone else who helps manage your care, like a parent or spouse, access to your MyChart information.
- Go to Sharing > Sharing Hub and select Give friends and family access.
- On the Friends and Family Access page, click Invite Someone in the Who Can See My Record? section.
- Enter that person's name and email address, confirm the level of access and click Send Invite to send an email invitation.
The recipient must click the link in the email to accept the invitation. The link takes them to a page where they must enter your date of birth to confirm that they know you. - After the person you've invited accepts the invitation, you'll get a message to let you know, and the Pending label is removed next to that person's name on the Friends and Family Access page. Return to this page at any time to change or cancel that person's access.

You may be able to respond to questionnaires in different places:

- If your care team sends you a MyChart message with an attached questionnaire, open it by clicking the questionnaire link near the top of the message.
If you need to close a questionnaire before you finish it, click Finish Later to save the information you already entered.
Track your daily health readings online
Your care team might request that you record information such as your daily glucose or blood pressure readings in MyChart. When you enter the information in the Track My Health feature, your care team automatically gets the readings so they can monitor your health between visits.
Record a new reading in Track My Health
- Go to Communication > Messages. Open the message from your care team about a new flowsheet.
The flowsheet is what you use to enter your readings in the Track My Health feature. - Click the link in the message to open Track My Health.

- When your flowsheet opens, click Add readings.
- Enter your reading with the date and time and click Save at the top of the screen.

- Go to Resources > To Learn and Resources > Patient Education.
- Click a title to open it and review the content.
Messaging
See messages from your care team
You can read messages from your care team by going to your Message Center (Communication > Messages). The Message Center has four folders:
- The Conversations folder is the main folder and has messages between you and your care team. The messages are organized by conversation, so messages and replies are together.
- You can bookmark a conversation to easily find it again. Open the conversation and tap the bookmark icon at the top of the screen to add a bookmark. You can find bookmarked conversations in the Bookmarked folder.
- If you start to write a message but don’t send it, your message is saved in the Conversations folder and marked as a Draft. To finish and send your message, click it to reopen it and continue writing. To delete the draft, click to reopen the message and click Discard.
- The Appointments folder has appointment reminders and confirmations.
- The Automated Messages folder has system messages automatically sent to and from your account, like payment confirmations and questionnaire submissions.
- The Trash folder has conversations you've deleted. If you need a message again, you can restore it to its original folder.
Get notified when you have new MyChart messages
- Go to Account Settings > Communication Preferences.
- Expand the Messages section and select how you’d like to be notified.
Message your care team
You can send a message to your care team for simple, non-urgent medical issues. This message is secure, meaning it stays private as it’s sent over the Internet.
You might message your care team if you need a school note excusing your child’s absence, if you're not sure whether you should come in for an appointment, or if you need more information about a medication or something that was discussed in a recent visit.
- Go to Communication > Messages.
- Select Message your care team.
- Select the type of message you want to send.
- Select a care provider to send your question to. If your provider is not listed, call their office to ask your question.

- When you are finished, click Send.
If you have Messaging notifications turned on, you'll get a notification when your message has been answered.

You create a share code in MyChart and give it to the person you want to share your health data with. The person who sees your information can also write a note to your Children’s Health care team to inform them of the care they gave.
- Go to Sharing > Share Everywhere.
- Enter the name of the person who needs your record and request the share code.
- Tell that person to go to www.shareeverywhere.com and to enter the code along with your date of birth.
