Concussion information for medical providers
We are passionate about concussion prevention and recovery. We pride ourselves on having a robust concussion research program led by skilled neurology experts. As the authority on concussions in North Texas, we work with organizations and community programs throughout the region to provide concussion education.
Concussion Innovation
Innovation is always at the forefront of the care we offer. We are involved in research for concussion care and management in partnership with the prestigious program at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Concussion Referrals
Most concussions heal within 21 to 28 days. As a healthcare provider or pediatrician, you should see signs of your patients’ healing and improvement during this period. If not, you should consider a referral to the Neuro-Concussion Program at Children’s Health. These are indications that a child is a good candidate for our program:
- Symptoms are not subsiding or are worsening
- Increased headaches
- Multiple concussions
- Slow or no progress in return to learn or return to play protocols
- Patient’s family requests a concussion specialist
Concussion Resources
We follow the guidelines of CDC’s HEADS UP Concussion initiative and the American Academy of Neurology. These organizations produce the latest information on care for concussion patients and have excellent resources for providers.
