b'CATHETERIZATION AND INTERVENTIONPerforming approximately 750 pediatric catheterization procedures each year, Childrens Health offers one of the largest, most experienced pediatric catheterization programs in the country. In fact, we have a long history of paving the way for innovation in pediatric catheterization and intervention, beginning with being the first to perform ductal stenting and transcatheter valve insertion, which have become national standards of care. Today, the tradition continues:We are one of the few centers worldwide that performs radiation-free cardiac catheterizations using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology. This hybrid approach offers a clear diagnosis process and less-invasive treatment without exposure to radiation. We are participating in the Edwards Alterra Adaptive Prestent feasibility study to evaluate a new type of heart valve stent replacement for patients with dilated right ventricular outflow tracts. The new stent allows physicians to downsize a patients pulmonary artery and use a transcatheter valve. We partner with the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health forresearch on complex cardiac conditions and treatments, including biodegradable stents for congenital heart disease. We offer access to percutaneous devices to support the left and right ventricles and have completed pre-clinical studies for the only pediatric percutaneous VAD available to patients. We use 3-D printing and magnetic resonance/CT imaging to augment pre-procedural and intra-procedural catheterization planning.26|The Heart Center Annual Report 2018 childrens.com/heart|26'
