b'SAFE AT HOME PROGRAM Our evidence-based Safe at Home programthe only one of its kind in North Texaseducates and empowers parents to help care for their infants with single ventricle defects that require a shunt for treatment. We have helped reduce hospital stays for children by allowing them torecover at home while waiting between procedures and appointments. Our team partners with families to answer questions, share knowledge and deliver the bestpossible outcomes at every step of a patients journey, which includes three surgical procedures:Stage 1 The Norwood procedure improves heart function by using a shunt to supply blood flow to the lungs. The Glenn procedure connects the main vein that routesStage 2 oxygen-poor blood from the upper half of the body to the pulmonary artery.Stage 3 The Fontan procedure connects the vein that sends oxygen-poor blood from the lower half of the body to the pulmonary artery.SAFE AT HOME OUTCOMES Childrens Health has only experienced two interstage mortalities in patients undergoingstaged palliation. Between 2010 and 2018, 204 patients have participated in the program.
