Bereavement care camp
This family retreat weekend encourages families to connect with other grieving families and heal together through their shared experiences. The retreat also provides support groups and specific programming for children, parents, and the family, as well as traditional camp activities to facilitate family bonding.
About Camp Sol
Camp Sol utilizes the experiences of parents who have experienced the death of a child, along with the expertise and support of child life specialists, music therapists, psychologists, nurses, physicians, chaplains, social workers, play therapists, and community grief support representatives to assist grieving families.
Location
Camp Sol retreat weekends take place at Camp John Marc in Meridian, TX. Families are responsible for transportation to and from camp, and a map will be provided to each family prior to the retreat weekend.
Dates
Camp Sol retreat weekends are held twice a year and typically fall around the first or second weekends of March and October. Families may only attend one camp per calendar year to allow as many families to experience the retreats as possible.
Eligibility
Camp Sol is specifically for families who have experienced the death of a child and have remaining siblings in the family. Attendees of Camp Sol retreat weekends may include immediate family members of the child who has died, including parents and siblings 18 years old or younger.
Schedule
Programming and camp activities take place from Friday evening through Sunday morning. During the weekend there are support groups specifically for children and parents, as well as traditional camp activities to facilitate family bonding.
Accommodations
Families will be provided a private cabin with beds for each family member. Families will need to bring their own sheets and bedding, as well as any personal items or toiletries. Camp food will be provided in family style format for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A menu for the weekend will be sent out to all families attending prior to the retreat. Families should note any allergies or dietary restrictions on their application and be sure to bring any special food or medications they may need during this weekend. Please note, Camp John Marc is a nut-free facility.
How to sign up
Registration will open on January 15 for the spring retreat and August 15 for the fall retreat. Emails will be sent to anyone on the current Camp Sol email list notifying families of the dates and providing a direct link for registration.
